The light rifle season wrapped up on Monday April 8. After the brass was all swept up, Cap City member John Faits earned the most tournament points and took home the Grand Champion trophy. Second place went to Jim Hartman and third place was Rich Kwiatkowski. Congratulations to John, Jim and Rich – and thank you to all the members and guests that came out and participated. Disposal of Recycling at the Club

Members please  use the blue bin under the coffee maker for .10 cent bottles and cans only.  Use the rubbish pail for EVERYTHING ELSE.  We recycle the deposit cans and bottles with local organizations .  This also pertains to the blue recycle barrel outside.  Do not throw trash in that barrel.

Live Rounds on the Range

Recently while sweeping up brass there were 29 live 9mm rounds on the floor in front of the firing line.  If you eject live rounds onto the floor,  put the warning light on, make sure the line is safe, enter thru port 3 and pick up your live rounds.  If you don't want them, put them in the red container on the front of the podium.

Clean up and Maintenance

When you finish shooting, take the dust broom and sweep off your port and the ports on either side of your port.  Shooter's coming to the range should not have to police up your spent brass.

More members need to take an active role in sweeping up the brass in front of the firing line.  It takes less than 10 minutes to sweep up and deposit spent brass into the pails in front of the firing line.  We separate unburnt from the brass. Directions are posted inside port 3.

Short Shooting

If you shoot short on ports 2 & 3, please remember that there is only one target approved for use at that distance.  If you cannot group your rounds as specified please do not shoot at that distance.  Not being able to shoot down the center-line of the tunnel is causing considerable damage to the tunnel walls.

Think Safety

A few safety reminders…

Safety is our # 1 priority at Capitol City. We have never had an accident and we cannot afford even one. Safety rules are posted throughout the club and on our wesbite. If you see something that you think is not safe, politely mention it to the shooter or contact Steve Jankowski or a club officer.

Recent range violations have been reviewed by the board, resulting in termination of membership privileges. Our leadership insists that our rules be followed. They are put in place for the safety of our members and their guests. If you choose not to abide by them, you risk losing your membership.

A few highlights from our safety rules. Please take a moment to review:

  • Remember we are a private club, here for the enjoyment of our 650+ members. As a membership perk, we allow you to bring a guest – Guests shoot .22 caliber only. No center-fire shooting by non-members. You must serve as a safety-officer while your guest shoots.

  • All guns you intend to shoot at the club must be in a case and unloaded when you enter the club. Holstered guns are allowed, but MUST remained holstered. No quick draw practice!

  • Everyone on the range must wear proper ear and eye protection.

  • Every firearm not being used must be made safe and have an empty chamber indicator clearly inserted and visible to the cameras. The only exception, is if you are finished shooting that particular firearm, and are going to use another gun, you may make the firearm safe, decock it and put it away in a case out of sight.
